Today, I visited the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board to present their new custom piece to Manager, Susan Stovell and everyone had such big smiles and were so captivated as I unveiled and told the story behind my latest commissioned artwork celebrating our shared commitment to preserving the beauty of our land.

STORY & MEANING
This piece titled "Protection" was created for the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board and represents their crucial work with community, industry, and other government agencies to sustainably manage our region's natural resources. Adorned in soothing hues of blues, greys, and greens, this piece beautifully intertwines symbols emphasising the protection and restoration of our soil, water management, biodiversity, and pest, plant and animal control.

Scattered across the landscape are visions of kangaroo and emu tracks sharing the land with people whose journey's are depicted with footprints and U-shaped symbols of people sitting together, males & females, children & elders.

Rock pools, waterholes, leaves and earth are featured throughout the piece in amongst symbols of connection representing our lush, pure and vibrant landscapes and the deep relationship between people and the land.

STORY & MEANING
"Sacred Waterholes" is a testament to the spiritual significance of water in Aboriginal culture.

Symbols of community represent different families gathering around the pristine waterholes of South Australia, the journeys they have taken and their profound connection to Country. Each line, each dot tells a story of resilience, tradition, and the enduring bond between each tribe and the sacred water sites that sustain them.

For generations, waterholes have served as vital gathering places for ceremonies, storytelling, and song. They are seen as portals to the Dreamtime, the mythical era when ancestral spirits shaped the land and its inhabitants.

In Aboriginal lore, water is revered as a source of life and purification, embodying the essence of creation and renewal. It is believed to possess healing properties and the power to cleanse both body and spirit. As such, waterholes are treated with utmost respect, serving as sacred sites where rituals are performed to honour the ancestors and maintain harmony with the natural world.
